Power of Velvia

Legendary slide film Velvia has been known to used by many world's famous photographers and for a good reason - contrast and color reproduction that has strongly saturated blue colors, at the same time not messing up warm ones. Just enjoy it while it lasts.

Portraits - best use of film

There is no better use for film than portraits. Especially BW film. It just feels like film is alive, just like us. There is not a lot of film left to choose from but it just seems like Ilford Xp2 & Kodak Tmax400 are my favorites. I really liked how Tmax400 looked when pulled one stop. Maybe there is not much of a difference but even less contrast seems to show more skin tonality.

Talking color film - from all there is on the market right now i like Portra160 the most. Very nice warm skintones with that oldschool film feel that Portra400 is missing.

Celebrating the end of winter

Hail to the summer and it was nice to have winter around too.

Taking 35mm Kodak Portra 160 for a spin

New Portra really offers super fine grain even on 35mm film. Originally this job was meant to be done with Ektar 100, but i had run out of it and only substitute was Portra 160. To be honest i am glad it happened that way. Perfect tonality and color reproduction. Few days after those pictures where taken house was partially demolished to be renovated.

Color film and polarizing filter

I will probably not do this every day, it just seems wrong for some reason. However sometimes you need to be able to shoot with wider apertures to get the right effect. I had loaded Portra 400 already and so i had no other choice to use polarizer to be able to keep aperture wide open during this very bright sunset. Yes, this is one situation where one can truly appreciate shutter speeds above 1/1000s. However... result turned out to be quite nice. Rich colors and contrast that this film does not have by default... not like it needs to. Nice result... in my opinion.
